The KOREAN WAR Gallery
Canadian War Museum - Ottawa, ON
opened 1994

The Korean War as seen through the eyes & talents of Edward Zuber.

The Korean War Gallery was the first of three exhibits designed by Oulton & Devine for the third floor of the Canadian War Museum.

Essentially a gallery to display the works of war artist Edward Zuber, the 2500 sq ft space was designed to provide a realistic setting for the paintings and their subject matter. The original artwork was displayed, some works were depicted in the form of dioramas, or were incorporated into dioramas to provide backdrops to the scene.

A 50's style general store sets the period - the visitor then enters a section of the deck of a personnel carrier to give the impression of landing on the shores of Korea. The remainder of the exhibit area depicts various settings during the Korean War, and also features a central "sniper gallery" where visitors look in to view additional works and can pick up handsets to listen to the artist talking about his work.

Oulton & Devine provided turnkey design from concept, through production drawings, graphics and installation supervision.
